…I believe Mark Chesnutt’s “I Just Wanted You to Know” might quite possibly be the perfect country and western song.
Followed very closely by George Jones’ “If Drinkin’ Don’t Kill Me (Her Memory Will)”:
PS – In that clip, he changes the lyrics to “If drinkin’ don’t kill me, Tammy’s memory will.” Youch.
On a semi-related note:
Ricky Bobb: “With all due respect, Mr. Dennit, I had no idea you’d gotten experimental surgery to have your balls removed.”
Larry Dennit, Jr.: “’With all due respect’ doesn’t give you the right to say anything you want.”
Ricky Bobby: “It sure as heck does. It’s in the Geneva Convention.”
Just wondering. Because if so, that’s pretty awesome.
Overheard in a between-commercials teaser on Raleigh’s new classic country AM station this morning…
“They don’t make ‘em like they used to! In fact, they made so many great country songs back then, they don’t need to anymore!”
I missed the CBS tribute to Brooks and Dunn last night but have caught up some today by trolling through YouTube. I love me some B&D – country music really doesn’t get much better than songs such as “Neon Moon,” “How Long Gone,” “Hard Workin’ Man” and “Brand New Man.” It was nice to hear some of radio’s poppier artists take their stabs at some of these tunes.
I heard a clip of this today on the radio:
Two things:
1. Carrie Underwood is one hell of a singer – arguably the best to pay tribute to the duo last night, barring Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles – but she doesn’t even begin to touch Ronnie Dunn’s performance of “Neon Moon” here. Next to George Jones, Dunn might be the best vocalist country music has ever seen.
2. Why the heck doesn’t Underwood record more tear-in-my-beer honky tonk songs like this? Country radio, pop-country blah blah blah – it suits her much more than this dreck.
George Strait performed “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” – in glasses, no less, while Kix Brooks, God love him, demonstrates that he really could have just sat on the side of the stage for the past 20 years:
One final note: It’s amazing how some honest-to-God country music can elevate even Jason Aldean. I don’t mind the dude, but in most of his songs you can barely even hear what he’s singing about under all of the drums and electric guitar riffs. I could only find this rehearsal footage where the sound goes in and out, but homeboy sounds a million times countrier singing this than “She’s Country”:
I’ve been looking for a non-shimmery, powder foundation-ish bronzer for awhile now. J.Lo? J.No.
Finally found it at Sephora on Saturday – Laura Mercier’s Bronzing Pressed Powder in Dune Bronze is perfection in a compact. The powder is supersoft and acts more like a powder foundation – minus the granny implications – than a highlighter.

I came across these while flipping through Lucky Magazine today – looked really cute on the model from straight on, and I really like the shade of brown. I like how chunky they are without being another riff off the gladiator style.
Turns out they’re a Nordstrom exclusive, run right at $100 and are also available in black.
